A BLDC motor with three coils on the stator will have six electrical wires extending from these coils (two to each coil). Three of these wires will be connected internally in most implementations, with the remaining three wires extending from the motor body (in contrast to the two wires extending from the brushed motor described earlier). Wiring in the BLDC motor case is more complicated than simply connecting the power cell’s positive and negative terminals; in the second session of this series
Benefits of BLDC motors:
One significant advantage is that these motors can operate continuously at maximum rotational force (torque). Brushed motors, on the other hand, reach maximum torque at only a few points during rotation. Larger magnets would be required for a brushed motor to deliver the same torque as a brushless model. As a result, even small BLDC motors can produce significant power.
The second major benefit, which is related to the first, is controllability. BLDC motors can be precisely controlled with feedback mechanisms to deliver the desired torque and rotation speed. Precision control, in turn, reduces energy consumption and heat generation, and, in the case of battery-powered motors, extends battery life.
Because of the lack of brushes, BLDC motors have high durability and produce little electric noise. Brushed motor brushes and commutators wear out as a result of continuous moving contact, and sparks are produced where contact is made. Electrical noise, in particular, is caused by the strong sparks that occur where the brushes pass over the gaps in the commutator. As a result, BLDC motors are frequently preferred in applications where electrical noise must be avoided.
